How do I scrape a “tags” attribute from a PDF using PDFMiner?
I’m using PDFMiner to scrape a page from a PDF. I’d like to scrape the “tags” attribute from the PDF, but the output it gives me only contains the tags for the page (i.e. it gives the same output for the entire page as it does for the first page), and not the tags for each text string in the document. I’m interested in this attribute because it allows me to search for a particular tag within the text, and I can’t find an example of it anywhere online.
The page is a collection of abstracts from a conference, and I’d like to scrape all the titles of the abstracts (the title is a different color than the abstract text, so I want to look for the title), and all the authors (who are in the footer of the document).
I’ve tried to use PDFMiner’s.getText() method, but it only seems to find the first paragraph on the page, and the.findText() method only returns a list of strings, not tags.
Is there a way to get a list of tags from the output, and if so, how do I do it? I’ve tried changing the output to a list of PdfText objects, and putting an.append(PdfText()) method in my loop, but the output isn’t in list format.
I also tried the.findTextTags() method, but it only returned an empty list, even though there is text in the PDF I’m trying to extract from.
I’ve tried searching everywhere for information on how to use PDFMiner, but it seems to be very sparse (except for the basic tutorials). I’m not entirely sure if PDFMiner works like that.
